For the Dutch Review of Books, I reviewed the (former) Dutch UN ambassador’s book on the Netherlands’ membership of the Security Council.
In his 2020 book ‘With an orange tie’, Karel van Oosterom provides detailed and intimate insights into the diplomacy at work in the Security Council.
Van Oosterom highlights the critical importance of the UN, and shows convincingly how a small country like the Netherlands can play a role in moving the needle on issues such as women’s rights and humanitarian action.
