Book review: ‘Challenges of Multilateralism’

For The The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, I reviewed ‘Challenges of Multilateralism’ by Kathryn C. Lavelle: ‘an important and timely contribution to the study of international history and diplomacy’.

At a time when international cooperation has become under pressure, Lavelle in her new book reminds us that multilateralism has faced – and survived – crises before. Lavelle shows that multilateralism is constantly reorganised, and that even after seemingly ruinous events such as the two world wars, new forms of international cooperation can emerge.

Her book is an insightful account of the history and functioning of multilateralism.
