In a review of De droom van Den Haag, Dutch daily NRC described the book as ‘catchy’, ‘entertaining, but also enlightening’.
NRC conferred four stars on the book and outlines in its review how the foundation of the international rules-based order was laid in The Hague. ‘[Duerr] describes with a strong sense for human detail how in 1899, within a few months, something like a euphoria for peace emerged’.
The detailed narrative, writes NRC, make ‘De droom van Den Haag not only an entertaining, but also an enlightening book about the international rule of law and its difficult revolutions’.
