Meeting South Korean President Yoon and Dutch Prime Minister Rutte

In a conversation with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, I spoke today about the history and relevance of international law in The Hague.

During President Yoon’s state visit, I explained at the Knight’s Hall the origins of The Hague as the city of peace and justice, the relevance of the Hague Peace Conferences of 1899 and 1907 which took place there – and the power of ideas which originated at that time, such as the prohibition of chemical weapons and international courts.
