In a review, the liberal Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant called ‘De droom van Den Haag’ an ‘extraordinarily lively and well documented book’.

He confirms the relevance of the Hague Peace Conference and highlights that it would be too simple to regard as naive the efforts to build peace. ‘Duerr doesn’t like to give up, he concludes his book with a passionate plea for hope and expectations instead of bitter cynicism.’
