Interview with BBC World News

Benjamin Duerr on BBC World News.

In a television interview with BBC World News, I commented on international law violations, 50 days after Russia invaded Ukraine.

My main points: Even even though there are violations, international law still offers important protections for people affected by the conflict. The fact that the law is violated doesn’t mean it’s useless.

Moreover, I explained the law – and threat of criminal liability – can shape political decisions going forward. The prospect of prosecutions and international condemnation of violations can discourage and deter certain acts and behaviour.

This why it is important the law is enforced.
